Mrs. Crnich & Ms. Mertens
This is my 20th year teaching and my 8th year at Springville. I completed my journalism degree at the University of Montana and worked in TV News for 10 years. Then I completed my Masters of Arts in Teaching at George Fox University and have never looked back.
My husband Larry also teaches 4th grade at nearby Bethany Elementary. We have 2 wonderful sons and a 1-year-old grandson.
I love traveling to new places, photography, bicycling, hiking and reading. In my spare time I create fiber art and teach art quilting.
Ms. Mertens grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona with her parents and younger sister. She moved to Oregon to attend Willamette University where she received a Bachelors in International Politics.
Ms. Mertens worked as an Instructional Assistant at an elementary school and as a nanny. She is currently enrolled in the Teacher Education program at Lewis and Clark College, graduating in June of 2019.
She enjoys reading, yoga, and going to the movies as well as spending time with her boyfriend Nick and cat.
